Three storms struck Westchester in a 10-day span, bringing high winds, rain and snow to the area, toppling power lines, utility poles and trees at a record rate.
In response, Con Edison enlisted the assistance of thousands of out-of-state mutual aid crews to expedite response time after coming under fire.
Con Edison said that residents or companies that fulfill certain requirements can make a claim within 30 days to recoup money for food or medication that went bad. There was no notice regarding residents that were forced to seek shelter in a hotel or left the area.
“Severe storm conditions have caused widespread power outages. Our crews have been working around-the-clock to restore service as quickly as possible,” officials stated. “Con Edison’s restoration efforts during major storms are subject to review by the Public Service Commission. After reviewing our restoration efforts, the Public Service Commission may require Con Edison to provide reimbursement for spoilage losses.”
A Residential Claim for Food and Prescription Medicine Spoilage Form can be found here. Claims must include an itemized list, with a maximum of $515. There must also be a proof of loss in the form of a cash register tape, store or credit card receipts or photographs of spoiled items.
